If you are reading this article then you probably already know what an arbor is, but I bet there are some out there who do not know what an arbor is. When I worked in the construction business the first time I saw the drawings for the arbor I said “what the heck is an that” and I knew I wasn’t the only one who did not know. So for those like I was, I am going to give a brief explanation of what an it is.
An arbor is structure that has two sides and a open slatted type roof, this is your basic design but there are many variations of this design varied only by the imagination of the owner. Arbors usually have some type of lattice type of design as the walls or roof. They are excellent structures for any type of sprawling flowers or crawling vines.
Some arbors may even have benches on either side for a relaxing evening sit down in the evening when it’s not too hot. Your arbor gates should be a place of serenity, where you can relax and commune with nature. Sort of a “sit down and smell the roses” time to reflect.
Now when you are talking about a gated arbor it brings to mind a beautiful landscaped property with a structure that has elegance and style built into it, that blends in with its surrounding natural environment. A well thought of arbor with a gate should make those entering feel as if they are descending upon a place of peace and well being.
Your arbor with a gate can be made of whatever material you desire but your main concern should be how the material will stand up to mother nature. A metal arbor with a gate will probably last longer than an arbor constructed of wood and require less maintenance. Although wooden arbors are usually made with treated wood that can last for quite some time, the choice is entirely up to you as to which materials to use.
You can even combine your arbor area with exotic plants and flowers transforming it into a garden arbor with a gate. With a little imagination you can create your very own Garden of Eden, a tranquil place of perfection where you go to unwind and forget about the daily grinds of life.
Your arbor gates will also impart an air of affluence and wealth although that may not be the case. When used as an addition to a patio or pool area, the arbor gates will be the area where you will find most people gathered around. Just imagine being in the wedding dress you have always dreamed of and in the background is the most beautiful scene of flowers, vines, artistic seating and the architectural awe of a gated arbor. It would surely be a scene straight out of a high class home beautification magazine.
Well the beauty of arbors and gates can easily be attained if you are not short on imagination. Arbor kits can be purchased at home improvement stores such as Lowes or Home Depot, as either plans for the construction of the arbor alone or an entire kit including flowers and plant arrangements to help beautify the structure itself. You will have to have the arbor gates installed as a post project. Remember to capture the true beauty and essence of an arbor with a gate, have your materials and foliage blend in as naturally as possible with the environment and your gated arbor will serve you as a place of beauty and peacefulness for many years to come.
